Sarah Suzanne Hansen STONE RIDGE-

Sarah Suzanne Hansen, 51, of Rest Plaus Road, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at the Kingston Hospital.

She was born in Norwalk, Conn. Dec. 19, 1959, a daughter of Nicholas and Helen Ruark van Laer. Her family moved to Hamburg, Germany when she was an infant and she attended American International School in Hamburg. She was a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall in Conn. and a 1981 graduate of St. Lawrence University.

Sarah worked at Family Circle Magazine in New York City and later worked as an executive at the private equity investment firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice until choosing to raise her family in Stone Ridge. Sarah was an avid knitter, writer, gardener, and recently had been building exotic doll houses. She loved to travel and most recently had been working on the beach house that she had always dreamed of in Vieques, Puerto Rico.

In addition to her parents of Southern Shores, N.C., she is survived by her husband, Harry Hansen, whom she married Sept. 8, 1990; two sons, Nicholas van Laer Hansen and Thomas Pearson Hansen; a brother, Lee van Laer; a nephew Adriane van Laer; and a niece, Rebecca van Laer, all of Sparkill, N.Y. Also survived by her extended family of dearly loved cousins in the Netherlands.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Christ the King Episcopal Church, 3021 Route 213, Stone Ridge, N.Y., Rector Alison Quin will officiate. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the Rondout Valley Food Pantry, 3021 Rt. 213, Stone Ridge, N.Y. 12484. Arrangements are by the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., Rosendale.
